Journey
Brothers Ben, Alfred, Leroy, and Kent Johnson were literally raised with woodworking tools in their hands.
During a period when most youngsters cut their teeth on Fisher Price toys and Nintendo controllers, the
Johnson brother's formative years were filled with screwdrivers, handsaws, and wood shavings. Old childhood
photographs portray four boys sporting over sized tool belts, toiling at a backyard workbench.
Graduating from the backyard to sweep-up duty at a local furniture company, each brother completed
an extensive woodworking apprenticeship under the tutelage of German-trained master carpenters and cabinet
makers. Quality over Quantity was the watchword for these old-school craftsmen. Eventual responsibilities
ranged from final assembly, to new product design, to machine programming and maintenance.
Additionally, all four brothers worked lengthy stints in the company's home improvement and renovations
branch while attending trade school at night where they practiced plumbing, welding, and electrical work.
Upon graduating from high school, each brother went his separate way; either in pursuit of collegiate
athletic dreams, medical school, or linguistic studies abroad. One constant remained however: all four
brothers continued to supplement their income through some type of carpentry or construction activity such as
framing and trim carpentry work in Pennsylvania; the restoration of historic dwellings in southern England;
or environmentally-friendly new construction in the Ukraine.
Then, in the fall of 2006, after almost eleven years of living and working in all four corners of the world,
the Johnson brothers reunited in Washington, DC where they formed Four Brothers, LLC. (Four Brothers)
Today, Four Brothers is a full-service design/build firm, offering a wide variety of services to both homeowners
and architectural firms throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area and beyond.
The diverse knowledge and interchangeable skill set each brother brings to the table melds to set Four
Brothers apart from the majority of competing entities. Best of all however, is each brother’s individual
commitment to quality, cleanliness, courtesy, and customer satisfaction. These underlying qualities are
documented in Our Commitment, a code that governs the conduct of each Four Brothers team member
and guides customer interactions.
